- What is Ihsan?
- A Muslim matrimony platform. It started in Q2 2020, inspired by the ISO threads on r/MuslimMarriage and shaped by what the community said was missing from other similar apps. It closed during covid, and it is expected to relaunch in Q1 2027.
- When does it open?
- We're aiming for Q1 2027. Join our mailing list and we'll let you know as soon as sign-ups open.
- Why did the original shut down?
- Moderation was the biggest challenge. As the community grew, especially during covid, it became increasingly difficult to manage. At the time, we didn't have a practical way to solve that problem at scale.
- Why now?
- Moderation at scale is much more manageable today. More importantly, the frustrations people had with Muslim matrimony apps back in 2020 are still around, and the commercialization of these platforms has only gotten worse. We think there's room for something different.
- Why only one connection at a time?
- We believe it's more in line with Islamic values and closer to how getting to know someone for marriage works outside an app. The idea is to encourage meaningful conversations.
- Who can see my photos?
- Only the person you are connected to. Photos never appear on a public profile or in a search result.
- What does it cost?
- Nothing. The original was free, and this one will be too. No subscriptions, hidden fees, or strings attached.
- What do you do with my data?
- We only collect and store what's necessary to run the site. We also try to avoid third-party services wherever possible, and any that we do use will be clearly disclosed in our privacy policy.
- Will you run ads?
- No.
- Will it be open source?
- Partially. We plan to open-source certain parts of the platform, particularly those that handle sensitive information, including identity verification.
- Will mosques and other communities be able to use the platform for their own needs?
- Yes. We plan to make a variant of the software available for mosques and other communities to run under their own branding and independent management. Reach out on info@ihsan.app for more information.
